St. Joseph's National School

Our local fire safety officer (Paul) came to our school to give us a talk on safety in the home. Every child got a fire safety pack. We had to get our parents to check their smoke alarms and prepare an evacuation plan for our individual homes. When we had completed our homework we got a certificate.

All of the boys and girls in the school went to Naas Fire Station. A fire officer was our guide. First he brought us to the locker room. The firemen kept their uinforms and boots there.The uniforms and boots were fireproof, acidproof and waterproof. They wore special helments to protect themselves from smoke.Then he brought us to where the fire engines were.On the side of the fire engine there were axes, power saws and other sharp tools. There were two hoses. There was a big hose and a small hose.There was a tank for the hoses. It had water in it. They said that they use the small hose more than the big hoses because the big hose uses up more water.At the end our teacher Mrs.Shorlock took a picture of us all beside the fire engine.
